Additional Suicide Prevention Resources
As of July 15, 2022 a person anywhere in the country can be connected with local suicide prevention and mental health crisis resources by calling or texting 988, then pressing 1 (see Be the One below also). Think of it as the 911 emergency system for mental health help.

Honor Flight Maine is a non-profit that provides free trips to veterans to the veterans memorials in Washington DC.
Maine Bureau of Veterans Services
Maine Veterans Dental Network The MVDN program was launched in 2021 by Governor Mills. For veterans who qualify, it can provide basic dental coverage through one of 23 non-profit dental clinics and schools. Note there are specific requirements that must be met. Details are found via the link. The program is supported by donations from individuals or businesses. Donations are welcomed and should be made directly to one of the clinics.
National Veterans Memorial Museum The museum is in Columbus Ohio. This veterans organization honors and postively impacts the lives of veterans, their familities, and their communities, via the 4 pillars of Honor, Connect, Inspire, and Educate. Both the American Legion and the VFW are supporters.
Operation Ray of Light, a non-profit organization that provides a veteran family empowerment center, that organizes activities for veterans and their families to engage in togther, such as ice fishing, peer groups, coffees, etc.

Pineland Farms VAST (Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training) provides free weekly programs for veterans (with or without disabilities) on Wednesdays 9-12 noon. Pineland farms is a non-profit with 5.000 acres of rolling terrain. Activities include archery, biathlon, bocce, cross-country skiing, cycling, disc golf, fly fishing, orienteering, parabadminton, snow shoeing, WC basketball, WC tennis, and others. Quilts of Valor is a non-profit organization that gathers together people who make quilts which are given to veterans.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Site
Veterans Inc. (since 1990 they have been helping vets in New England)
Veteran to Veteran Maine REVISED! (pairs a vet with a lonely or isolated vet) Visits to the isolated vet;s home are typically twice a month. If you want to volunteer to do visits, fill in the application, provide references and a background check, you will be interviewed. If accepted there is a 9 hour training program (3 sessions of 3 hours). Wills for Heroes (FMI click on link) NEW! Provides free basic estate planning for low income vets and spouses. This service is provided by Pine Tree Legal Assistance and the Maine Bar Association. FMI call 207-400-3265 and arrange an intake interview.
